Skate for the Cure ’07
|
|
The directors of Skate for the Cure are pleased to
announce that the radio station 96.7FM, the COAST, is
the official radio station of “Skate For the Cure –
2007.” In addition to on-air promotion of the event, the
radio station will have a presence the night of SFTC,
June 30, at the Rinks at Shelton. The COAST will be
giving away prizes, greeting attendees and playing music
at their booth at the affair. The COAST joins a growing
list of exhibitors and participants at the figure
skating exhibition, including the Bridgeport Bluefish,
the Diabetic Foot Center, Threshold Mortgage, GVA
Williams commercial realty and Starbucks.
Martin Nirschel, executive director of Skate for the
Cure said, “these companies show their commitment to
fighting juvenile diabetes through action. We are very
grateful for their support.” Nirschel said that the
event is gaining momentum each day. “It is going to be a
high-wattage show with lots of surprises.”
Nirschel added that he is “amazed by the star power
Skate for the Cure generates. Somehow Daniel Inamorati,
who was just 16 when he produced the first Skate for the
Cure, and his mom, Barbara, were able to involve these
enormous skating stars like Emily Hughes and Silvia
Fontana. It was incredible to go to the first Skate for
the Cure and then the next year see these same people
competing for Olympic medals.” 2006 Olympic Silver
medalists Melissa Gregory and Denis Petuhkov headline
this years’ show. “How they got Frank Simms to MC is
another mystery,” Nirschel said. “Growing up in
Stamford, Frank was an iconic figure; it was a thrill to
see him on MTV with David Bowie and Billy Joel. He was,
and remains, the Elvis of background singers, not to
mention that he is probably the most prominent
commercial voice performer in the world. Beyond that he
is an absolutely wonderful guy and we are so proud to
have him associated with Skate for the Cure.”
Skate for the Cure will be held Saturday June 30, at 7
p.m., at the Rinks at Shelton 764 River Road (Route
110), Shelton, CT. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12
for children and all proceeds from the show will help
fund diabetes research at DRI and JDRF. Tickets can be
ordered online at
www.skateforthecure.com or call (203) 409-6406 for
more information.
