Skate for the Cure
was first conceived of and produced by Daniel Innamorati of Westport,
Connecticut in 2005. Daniel had the idea to put together an exciting
ice skating exhibition, featuring Olympic ice skaters and competitive
figure skaters from the tri-state area, to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation. At the time, Daniel was 16 and a competitive
figure skater who as he put it “wanted to use the sport I love to help
find a cure for this horrible disease that afflicts so many people, most
of whom are children.” He was first motivated by three of his
grandparents who had Type 2 diabetes—the more he read about diabetes,
the more he wanted to focus his efforts on raising money for the JDRF. Daniel is now off at
college, but he has handed off his role to a fantastic new Executive
Producer—Martin Nirschel. In addition to Martin, Leah Agler, who is a
competitive skater and friend of Daniel’s, has taken over the role as
Co-Executive Producer, helping with recruiting and organizing the
skaters. The Show keeps growing with new skaters and new sponsors, but
we continue to need your support. Thank you for your commitment to make
a difference. We couldn’t do it without you. |
